Had to say no, there were a lot of parked cars around and let alone the rig cost itself, but if they crash against a window or a car, liability would be a problem. So, I’ll be all in to introduce them to the hobby, but what kind of car I can get that it’s not fast, super beginner friendly, and not needing my full supervision…while also easy and cheap to repair. Don’t want to spend more than a 100 for something my neighbor’s kid will break. Form factor doesn’t matter. Thoughts? Also, I’m in Europe and used is tough in the country I live.

They don’t do that. When a lipo explodes, it’s because the pressure within the battery exceeds the tensile strength of the casing material. It tends to be sudden and… entertaining because it pops like a balloon, rather than leaking like a tap. The internal pressure of the battery depends upon what’s happened to it. Overcharging, over-discharging, charging at too high a current and leaving it fully charged for prolonged periods all contribute toward the polymer crystallising and off-gassing, and obviously more gas = higher pressure. This is why you see “puffed up” batteries (r/spicypillows). If your battery isn’t puffed up and isn’t connected to any current (either in or out of the battery), it won’t just explode by itself. Think about all the billions of old flip-phones, Nintendos, smart speakers and other small, barrel-plug-charged devices lying disused in cupboards and drawers across the globe. If batteries really did just blow up due to lack of use, we’d know about it. If you’re really *really* worried about it, get a lipo battery monitor (I have [this one](https://amzn.eu/d/3lPZ2BJ)). As long as the battery is: - not puffy (and if you can’t tell if it’s puffy, it isn’t) - dry - disconnected - between 0 and 35^o C - over 3.2V/cell and under 4V per cell It won’t “just explode” without warning.
