What it does: • You drop a 3D model (STL/OBJ/3MF) • It analyzes the actual geometry (overhangs, solidity, number of parts, etc.) • It classifies the part (mechanical, decorative, hollow, etc.) • It generates optimized settings for your printer and filament • Then it opens the slicer (Bambu Studio / Flash Studio / Orca) with everything already configured Supported printers right now: • Most Bambu Lab machines (A1, P1, X1, H2 series, etc.) • FlashForge (Creator 5, Adventurer 5M, AD5X, Guider 3 Ultra…) The app is native (not Electron), very lightweight, and runs a small local AI only for classification. Settings are decided deterministically with safety guardrails so it can’t produce dangerous profiles. It’s currently free and available here: https://github.com/alexmark53343-byte/FlashFit-AI Important note about SmartScreen: The Windows build is not signed yet, so you’ll see the usual “Unknown publisher” warning. Is Gyroid Still the King of Infills in 2026?

Even in 2026, with slicers having AI generated infills, crosshatch is really good, but I feel like the print quality suffers a bit. What do you guys use?

Reverse-engineered Bambu's per-face paint_color format so 3MF exports keep their colors (free browser tool)

I built something I wanted for myself and figured people here would find it useful. Bambu Studio's multi-color paint tool writes per-face color assignments in an undocumented binary format, and I could not find a single converter, online or otherwise, that preserved it when exporting to GLB. They all export flat gray mesh. So I reverse-engineered the format and built a browser tool: upload a multi-color .3mf, every painted zone shows up correctly, you can recolor them live, preview in AR on your phone at true size, and export GLB or USDZ, or a re-tinted .3mf that opens back in Studio or Orca and slices fine. Would love bug reports if you throw a weird multi-color file at it and it chokes. The offending file is the most useful thing you can send me.

Turning the A1 Mini into a 2D pen plotter without using a slicer! (with the software I wrote :D)

I love my A1 mini and wanted to use it as a high-speed 2D pen plotter as soon as I got it (to write my assignments and stuff). That, as I soon came to find out, requires fighting with slicer software, dealing with the hotend heating up, extruder gears grinding unnecessarily, or buying paid software which still doesn't natively support what I want to do. To fix this, I built an open-source tool called BambuScribe (Yeah, I know, real creative). Instead of using a slicer, it connects directly to the printer via LAN Only Mode using the internal MQTT broker. **How it works:** It bypasses the Bambu cloud entirely. The web UI calculates the toolpath in the browser, sends it to a Python backend, and streams raw G-code chunks directly to the printer. Because of this, it has some specific safety benefits: * **Cold Plotting:** The hotend never heats up (no fire hazard against paper). * **Extruder Off:** The extruder gears never turn, preventing unnecessary hardware wear. * **Virtual Bounding Boxes:** You jog the toolhead to your paper's corners to set a custom drawing plane, meaning the nozzle never strikes the bed or whatever you use to hold down the paper. * **Writing & Image Support:** You can natively write on lined pages or draw custom uploaded images. I also built in an OpenCV engine for image processing (stippling/crosshatching) and a native Hershey vector font engine for standard and cursive text. I’m a high school student and this is my first dive into hardware orchestration and network protocols, so it's very much a work in progress (print times are currently a bit slow as it validates every MQTT packet to prevent buffer overflow). Retraction is the magic setting for TPU

Pretty much everything I found on forums was about wet filament or nozzle temp too high. Whenever I posted pics of stuff I designed and printed in TPU, people would tell me to dry my filament. But drying for 24+ hours and trying lower nozzle temperatures didn't make any difference. Lower nozzle temperatures seemed to just increase stringing and below 210 the lines didn't even stick to each other. I finally just Googled it and the AI bot said to use 1.5mm retraction. I looked through some of the results to confirm and that seems to be the consensus for these printers. The default Bambu setting is only 0.4mm retraction. Now I'm printing Overture 95A (non high speed) TPU at **230C** nozzle temperature for the layer adhesion with **1.5mm retraction** and **retraction on layer change**. There's **zero stringing!** The thing in the pictures is a low profile roof rack pad for stand up paddle boards, surfboards, etc. I designed it to be printed in 50mm segments.

You can drop in a monochrome SVG or a supported image file and get ready‑to‑print 3D models out, either as flat tiles or shallow molds you can cast into. It’s highly customizable: you can tweak tile size, chamfer and fillet, and you can even generate a mold version that you might want to print in TPU for casting. There’s no signup, no tracking, no cookies, and **no paid plans**. Remember: this is under active development and in beta, so things are expected to change quickly and errors are possible. I’ve printed a bunch of test pieces on my BambuLab X1C and I’ve attached a photo of the results. I’d love to hear what you think, what works well, and what doesn’t. The Software Freedom Conservancy (SFC) just launched a massive counter-offensive against Bambu Lab over AGPL violations – Introducing Project "baltobu"

They just released a massive statement confirming that Bambu Lab is in direct violation of the **AGPLv3 license** regarding their proprietary network plugin. This is **Keymera** — a tiny working camera you can 3D print, build at your desk, and clip to your keys. The idea is simple: a real little camera that feels like a maker object again. Not an app. Not a phone accessory. Not a smart device. Just a small thing you print, assemble, carry, and press when you want to keep a tiny moment. What it does: * takes real 3 MP photos * saves them to microSD * opens a Wi-Fi photo gallery in your phone browser * needs no app, no account, no cloud * sleeps quietly on your keys until you press the button Short press: wake → shoot → save → blink → sleep again. Long press: open the Wi-Fi gallery. The build is intentionally small: * about **1 hour to print** * about **1 hour to assemble** * **5 printed parts** * **4 electronic components** * 4 solder joints * no screws * no glue * Arduino IDE firmware There are **3 exterior designs** at launch: Rangefinder, SLR, and Instant. They all share the same inner frame and electronics, so the outside changes the whole personality without changing the build. And because the visible shell pieces are separate, your slicer basically becomes the paint shop: mix colors, do retro camera combinations, go bright and weird, keep it monochrome, use translucent parts, or turn on fuzzy skin to get a faux leatherette camera texture. There’s also a 4th TLR-style shell planned as a stretch goal.
