I’m Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Ask Me Anything.
From Reddit saved post — r/IAmA, u/thisisbillgates, Feb 25 2019 https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/aunv58/im_bill_gates_cochair_of_the_bill_melinda_gates/ I’m excited to be back for my seventh AMA. I’ve learned a lot from the Reddit community over the past year (check out this fascinating [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/robotics/comments/adxzo7/what_areas_of_robotics_research_are_you_most/) on robotics research), and I can’t wait to answer your questions. If you’re wondering what I’ve been up to (besides waiting in line for hamburgers), I recently [wrote](https://www.gatesnotes.com/About-Bill-Gates/Year-in-Review-2018?WT.mc_id=02_25_2019_10_AL2019_BG-RE_&WT.tsrc=BGRE) about what I learned at work last year. Melinda and I also just [published](https://www.gatesnotes.com/2019-Annual-Letter?WT.mc_id=02_25_2019_10_AL2019_BG-RE_&WT.tsrc=BGRE) our 11th Annual Letter. We wrote about nine things that have surprised us and inspired us to take action. One of those surprises, for example, is that Africa is the youngest continent. Here is an [infographic](https://www.reddit.com/r/Infographics/comments/aulqu1/africa_is_the_youngest_continent/) I made to explain what I mean. **Proof:** [https://](https://old.reddit.com/user/thisisbillgates/comments/auo4qn/cant_wait_to_kick_off_my_seventh_ama/)[reddit.com/user/thisisbillgates/comments/auo4qn/cant\_wait\_to\_kick\_off\_my\_seventh\_ama/](https://old.reddit.com/user/thisisbillgates/comments/auo4qn/cant_wait_to_kick_off_my_seventh_ama/) **Edit:** I have to sign-off soon, but I’d love to answer a few more questions about energy innovation and climate change. If you post your questions [here](https://www.reddit.com/user/thisisbillgates/comments/auosel/ask_me_about_energy_innovation_and_climate_change/), I’ll answer as many as I can later on. **Edit:** Although I would love to stay forever, I have to get going. Thank you, Reddit, for another great AMA: [https://imgur.com/a/kXmRubr](https://imgur.com/a/kXmRubr)

I made a free alternative to Photoshop, that is used by 1.5 millions of people. Ask me Anything!
From Reddit saved post — r/IAmA, u/ivanhoe90, Nov 06 2018 https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/9urjmg/i_made_a_free_alternative_to_photoshop_that_is/ My name is Ivan Kutskir, I am 28 y.o. and live in Prague, the Czech Republic. I studied Computer Science and I enjoy programming. I am the author of [Photopea photo editor](https://www.Photopea.com) , which is an advanced image editor, that works in a web browser. There was about 1.5 millions of visitors in October. After the first 7 000 hours of work (around 5 hours a day during 3.5 years), I haven't made a single dollar (it was just my hobby during the college). Then, I put advertisement into it, and it makes me a decent income now (decent for a single person in Prague). Many people are surprised, when I tell them that I am still working on it by myself. I am ready to answer any questions :) Proof: I put a link to this AMA to [https://www.photopea.com/reddit.html](https://www.photopea.com/reddit.html)!

IamA entrepreneur who sold more than $22M worth of online businesses and built a 100% remote company while traveling the world - all from my laptop. AMA!
From Reddit saved post — r/IAmA, u/jwcooke, Apr 25 2017 https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/67gdl8/iama_entrepreneur_who_sold_more_than_22m_worth_of/ My name is Justin Cooke, I am the co-founder of [Empire Flippers](https://empireflippers.com/about-us/) where we help others buy, sell, and invest in online businesses. Along with my business partner, Joe Magnotti, we started building and selling our own websites back in 2009-2010, but eventually pivoted to a brokerage & marketplace where we bring together sellers, buyers, and investors to close deals. The company has grown quite a bit in the last few years - from $200K in sales in 2012 to nearly $10M in 2016 - enough to get us listed at #161 on the [INC 5000 list](https://www.inc.com/profile/empire-flippers). To date, we’ve helped broker more than $22M in online business sales and are on track to do around $18 - 20M in 2017. We are a US based company, but run our business from SE Asia and we’ve grown our team by hiring “apprentices” and bringing them halfway around the world to join us. As they grow they become part of our core team. Our management team is technically “location independent”, but we all get together every 3-4 months to spend a month working together. Our current get together is happening right now in Saigon, Vietnam. We just hired 4 new apprentices and are experiencing one of the biggest months in the company’s history with over $3 Million in online businesses sold. I’m a fan of Reddit and the /r/IAmA sub, so I’m really hoping to provide value and give back to the community. We broker almost every type of online business (Adsense, Amazon Affiliate, FBA, E-commerce, Private Affiliate, iOS apps, SaaS, etc.) and have seen thousands of unique and successful businesses. You can read more about the 11 most popular type of online business models here: https://empireflippers.com/11-popular-business-models-online/ Feel free to AMA about buying, selling or investing in online businesses, building management teams, starting a podcast, growing our business, interesting niches, living/working remotely, or anything else! Proof: [Twitter](https://twitter.com/EmpireFlippers/status/856853686475255808) [Shopify](https://www.shopify.com/blog/118772741-selling-your-shopify-store-on-empire-flippers) [Previous AMA](https://www.reddit.com/r/Entrepreneur/comments/54wzzs/ive_sold_more_than_12m_worth_of_online_businesses/) ------ **Edit 1:** Holy S***! - thanks for all the questions/comments/love - You all are awesome and the questions have been extremely interesting to answer- keep them coming! Sorry I haven't gotten to DM’s yet - I am going try to get to those tomorrow and focus on answering as many comments as I can today. For anyone curious about selling, but wondering how much your site is worth, we've [created this Valuation Tool](https://empireflippers.com/valuation-tool-2-0/). It will give you a "rough" estimate, but we actually use this to list/price the businesses with us, so it's pretty accurate. If you know you're ready to sell, you can [submit your site for sale with us here](https://empireflippers.com/sell-your-site/). If you're wondering what types of business we have listed for sale, you can [check out our marketplace](https://empireflippers.com/marketplace/) and review the businesses we have for sale. ------ **Edit #2** Quite a bit of our business success was due to creating high quality content that educates and expands our industry which is why we LOVE doing things like this - we really enjoy interacting with everyone here. I hope you're digging it as well. Getting quite a few in-depth questions that we've covered elsewhere. For people really looking to find out more about entrepreneurship, our apprentice model, and our thoughts on business in general, feel free to check out [The Empire Podcast here](https://empireflippers.com/podcasts/) (Listen on our site, on iTunes, on Stitcher, etc.) It's our not-so-weekly show that I think you might dig. ------ **Edit #3** Hey all - thank you so much for this amazing opportunity! It's after 2am here in Saigon, Vietnam right now, so I'm going to cut this off and go to bed tonight. I'll wake up tomorrow and try to get back to your questions - hopefully you'll find them helpful/useful. I know plenty of you are new to business - particularly online business models - but we wrote a post that goes into some depth explaining how each of the 11 most popular online business models works. It's for newbies mostly, but even if you have some experience you might find some value...especially when we talk about them from a buying/selling perspective. You can check that post out here: [11 Most Popular Business Models Online](https://empireflippers.com/11-popular-business-models-online/) Again - thank you so much and I'll try to get back to more of your questions tomorrow! ------ **Edit #4** Thank you all so much for stopping in - I had a blast doing this! I think I answered most of the questions you had, so I think it's time to shut this down. If you didn't get an answer I probably answered a similar question someplace else. Want to get on a call with our team to discuss buying/selling online businesses? **[Click here to schedule a call](https://app.hubspot.com/meetings/ef/round)** Thanks again for your questions, comments, and insights - really appreciate it!

Hi, we are the creators of 'hi-bit' pixel adventure Owlboy! It's been a loooooong time coming, but Owlboy is finally released! Ask Us Anything!
From Reddit saved post — r/IAmA, u/Jo-remi, Dec 22 2016 https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/5jrtge/hi_we_are_the_creators_of_hibit_pixel_adventure/ Development on Owlboy started in 2007, when Simon S. Andersen started out with one goal in mind - how can we make pixel art relevant again. Little did Simon know that the project would be delayed for years and years, and an entire wave of indie pixel-art games would enter the scene before Owlboy was released. Despite being a tiny team with a severe lack of a budget, years of delay, and an ongoing struggle to keep the game relevant through almost a decade of development - the game is finally out! It recently featured as one of TIME Magazine's Games Of The Year, and has become one of the top critically acclaimed game releases of 2016. To celebrate, Owlboy will today 20% off on Steam from today: http://store.steampowered.com/app/115800 Ask us anything! Art Director: Simon S. We are Obsidian Entertainment, creators of AAA RPGs for over a decade including our upcoming Tyranny! Ask us Anything!
From Reddit saved post — r/IAmA, u/Theletterz, Nov 09 2016 https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/5c3nkh/we_are_obsidian_entertainment_creators_of_aaa/ Hey there Reddit! We are [Obsidian Entertainment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsidian_Entertainment)! Tomorrow we release our brand new RPG [Tyranny](https://www.tyrannygame.com/) which will [add to our long legacy of RPGs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsidian_Entertainment#Games). Ask us anything you want, doesn’t have to be about Tyranny (though we’re pretty excited to talk about it!), but as game developers we’d of course love to keep it within that scope of relevance! We have also charmed some of the lovely people from our publisher Paradox Interactive to assist us in answering/pitching-in on questions where they are able as we've been working together with them for some time now! **With us today are** Brian Heins /u/brian_obsidian Feargus Urquhart /u/FeargusUrquhart Tim Cain /u/TimCain Mikey Dowling /u/Mikey2x4 It’s gonna be fun hanging with you all! **Let’s do this!** Ah! But of course we’ll be needing some **proof** as well! [PROOF](https://twitter.com/Obsidian/status/796387386666061824) Here’s Brian and and Tim [PROOF 2: Return of the Mikey](http://imgur.com/a/IkmJt) [PROOF III: The Paraproofening](https://twitter.com/PdxInteractive/status/796426711969726464) Some Paradoxians we ensnared **UPDATE:** This has been a true blast and we're so happy that you're all here having a good time with us! We're gonna start easing out as we all do have other responsibilities to attend to (the swedes in particular need to sleep). It's not impossible that some of us dip in and out of the thread throughout the day to answer some more questions though consider the AMA largely over. 'Til next time we meet! Hail Kyros!

Comment on: We are the team working on React Native. Ask us anything!
From Reddit saved comment — r/IAmA, u/react-native-team, Dec 15 2015 https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/3wyb3m/we_are_the_team_working_on_react_native_ask_us/cxzx52o/ Comment on: We are the team working on React Native. Ask us anything! Actually that's not quite correct. Apple has stated that they are OK with developers deploying OTA (over-the-air) bug fixes and minor updates to apps in the store without resubmitting, provided that: - The updates don't significantly change the nature of what was originally submitted for review - The updated code is executed using the Apple-supplied JavaScriptCore VM We don't currently provide an OTA update mechanism as part of the open source React Native framework, but the necessary hooks are in place, and there are third party OTA code deployment solutions you can use. As for whether this would theoretically allow developers to deploy malicious updates? Yes, absolutely it would, and if developers choose to do that, Apple will no doubt take those apps of the store and apply whatever sanctions they deem appropriate. -Nick
