After the third MoCA adapter dying within 5 years and with neither WiFi mesh nor powerline cutting it for me I was looking for another solution. Enter "invisible" bend insensitive fiber (`G.657.A2` / `G.657.B3`). It's under a millimeter in diameter and basically vanishes into corners and base board crevices. From more than a meter away is't completely unnoticeable. Together with a pair of bidirectional SFP transceivers this makes an amazing retrofit option for locations where laying new runs is not an option.

Proxmox, it’s Debian based, and you can spin up different VMs for different use cases. If you get more hardware, you can look at clustering and moving VMs between machines to better suit the hardware/software needs, make a PBS VM for backups, get crazy. Learn Linux TV has a great tutorial on setup, it’s pretty easy to navigate once you’re used to it.

We use 172.25.0.0/22 172.25.0.x is for hardware/switches/APs etc 172.25.1.x is for virtual servers 172.25.2.x is for static clients 172.25.3.x is for dhcp Then 10.17.0.x is a separate VLAN for IoT devices with no internet access.

It runs High Available Kubernetes cluster using Talos linux. Hardware: ThinkCentre M910: \- 8GB/256GB - X3: Control planes \- 32GB/1TB - X3: Worker nodes TP-Link TL-SG108 V3 8-ports Gigabit Network Switch The whole thing consumes only about 50 watt when idle. Everything is fully embedded inside including 6 power supplies for the PCs. What I host and use there: \- AgroCD for gitops \- Longhorn for distributed storage \- [https://github.com/prometheus-operator/kube-prometheus](https://github.com/prometheus-operator/kube-prometheus) for monitoring \- Private docker registry \- Telegram chat bot which is overly complicated and uses microservice architecture for learning purposes \- Valheim, Palworld and Minecraft servers for my friends.

Ended up putting everything into a small rolling rack: Top: monitor + Xbox for a bit of fun Rack gear: UPS, PDU, switch, and patch panel (still tweaking the layout) Bottom: a DXP4800P NAS + Mac mini for services and storage So far it feels a lot more organized and way easier to manage. The UPS already saved me once during a short outage, and being able to just roll the whole setup out for maintenance helps a lot. And yeah, before anyone asks — the white version of this NAS model is kinda rare outside China. I actually asked a friend over there to help me grab one and ship it over, since I really liked how it looks next to the rest of my setup XD. Do you guys prefer run your homelabs in racks vs. just shelves/desktops? And do you think it’s worth throwing a noise-reduction case around something like this, or keep it open for airflow?

Then moved to a Xeon based setup (gifted this one to one my colleague to bring him into homelab) then moved to my old desktop (AMD Ryzen 5 5600G) and now Lenovo thinkcentre mini pc. Current hardware spec: 1. Lenovo ThinkCentre m910q with i5 8th gen and 16GB memory 2. TerraMaster D4-320 with 2x2TB WD HDD OS: * Proxmox Services: Both in LXC and Docker * Nginx Proxy Manager * Homepage * Vaultwarden (Bitwarden) * Keycloak * omv for SMB share * gotify * ARR stack to download linux iso automatically and Jellyfin to watch the download * Immich * Nextcloud * pi-hole * seanime * excalidraw * VS Code server * uptimekuma * openspeedtest * it-tools * Grafana and Prometheus * And few more, VMs for ocassional tinkering Backup: * On a 2TB external SSD. After tinkering with xeon, AMD based system. I found out that I don’t even need that much high spec for the things I run. How would you rate my current setup?
