Alex Prompter transformed Andrej Karpathy’s viral AI coding rant into a detailed system prompt designed for AI coding agents, which helps prevent common mistakes highlighted by Karpathy. The prompt instructs the AI to act as a senior software engineer collaborating closely with a human, emphasizing clear assumption surfacing, confusion management, pushing back against bad ideas, simplicity, and scope discipline. It also enforces best coding practices like test-first development, declarative instructions, and avoiding overcomplication or unnecessary changes. This system prompt enhances AI coding workflows by promoting precision, transparency, and effective human-AI collaboration.
