An extremely efficient sine approximation

The article presents a simple and efficient quadratic polynomial approximation for the sine function, defined as fakeSin(x) = x(1 - abs(x)) on the range [-1,1], which closely resembles a sinusoid and is computationally cheap. To handle inputs outside this range, a range limiter function using floating-point modulo is introduced, enabling a fast sinusoid oscillator implementation. Although floating-point division (used in modulo) is typically slow, vectorized processing and alternative implementations can mitigate this cost. The method offers a practical trade-off between accuracy and computational efficiency, especially useful in audio signal processing.
