Seats and Sunsets — Steve Yegge

Steve Yegge shares his experience managing a complex AI orchestrator called Wheelhouse, which drives his video game development using advanced models like Claude Fable 5. Despite the system's impressive productivity, escalating fuel (token) costs have forced him to prioritize fuel efficiency and limit usage to sustain operations. He highlights the challenges of balancing workload, costs, and model capabilities, noting that current AI is powerful but still expensive and imperfect for many tasks. Yegge also touches on issues like system oscillation and the need for strategic management to keep AI-driven workflows productive and cost-effective.
