"The Grand Finale" This is the most ambitious and self indulgent thing I've ever done - an attempt at bringing together some of the biggest experiments from the "month of chiptune" project into one epic 11 and a half minute song. Here's what the song contains: the whole song is structured similar to day 29's "three generations", and progresses through each third made up of: GAME BOY SECTION 0:00 Solo and rhythm guitar section for the intro (as in day 12 and day 21) 0:48 a live percussion section featuring a bunch of different instruments (as in chiptune boomwhackers - day 25) 1:36 stylophone solo as in day 13s 2:24 4/4 lead over 5/4 rhythm, same concept as day 18's "over lapping time signatures" 3:03 GENESIS SECTION 3:11 mixolydian - this section experiments with the mixolydian mode of C major, as in Day 16's video "G Mixolydian 3/4 3:44 another stylophone section, this time accompanied by genesis sounds 4:08 heavier orchestral section, uses the most "epic" sounds I could, plus a more distorted and rocky lead and rhythm guitar section. 6:07 N64 6:16 harmonica! As in day 27's Chiptune Harmonica. I really love this section and on to the end... It's weird and folksy and the N64 instruments I think mix well with instruments here especially... 7:04 the boomwhackers and live percussion again. I think of my attempts at using live percussion instruments this section and onwards is the best folksy and quirky sound I've gotten out of this silly experiment, and I love it :D 8:00 Guitar outro, and a bunch more percussion. All of the chiptune and synth instruments drop away here except for a single organ, so for the last few minutes the song is almost entirely live instruments, with a lot of layering and mixing. Creating the video for these sections was the hardest part by far! I'm Scott Arc and thank you for attending my TED talk. Month of chiptune playlist: • Month of Chiptune!
