As you might have noticed, different colours are used to describe the generation of the chip-card.

The first generation was the wafer card (white): This card had only a CPU but no additional EPROM. Used for Satelite Receivers to emulate a subscriber card.

Later, the Goldcards showed up. They had almost the same chip (16F84) like the first generation, but where improved so you wouldn't crack them as easy as the wafer cards. Additionaly, they had an EPROM (24LC16) of 16 Kb. These cards were the standard for a long time as they had enough capacity in the Eprom to store many providers of different satelite subscriber cards.

The third generation was called Blue card. This Blue card has the same CPU as the Goldcard (16F84), but a bigger Eprom 24LC64. This cards were not used very much as better ones showed up on the market almost the same time they appeared.

The fourth generation was called Silver Card. These cards include an improoved Processor (PIC16F877) and an Eprom (24x64) of 64 Kb. This was the first card Daniel used to make his Version of Sim-Emu. He needed a good processor (although the 16F84 would do as well) but, more important, he needed a huge EPROM capacity to store the Phonebook, SMS, etc.

The next generation was the Greencard (PIC16F877) + EPROM (24x128) of 128 Kb. Daniel (Sim-Emu) wrote a version of his firmware, to support even more Phonebook entries and more SMS (99). Since most new Phones now do include a huge capacity for SMS in the phone (and Phonebook entries) there was no need to switch to a newer generation of card.

Later Greencard II showed up with the same processor as the Greencard but a 256 Kb Eprom.

As you have noticed, the silver and the green cards are having the same Processor. This means that you wouldn't have to write a new firmware for the Processor... only the Eprom adress has to be adjusted according to the new capacity.

All Eprom Capacities mentioned are Kilobit, to convert the capacity into KiloBytes, divide it by 8.

Last but not least there are Fun Cards on the market. These cards are made by www.ATMEL.com . These cards have similar capacities of EPROM 64kb - 2048kb) like the PIC-CARDS but run with a different processor. SIM-EMU is NOT compatible with these cards and (as far as I know) there will never be a version for these cards.
