Many thanks for this wonderful repository of all things Tasker Andreas. I’m looking forward to seeing new Tasker tutorials now that you are able to run the 4+ version and I hope to follow suit imminently and upgrade my ageing Fro-yo tablet though I will miss the encryption feature but hopefully someone will create a plugin to fill that gap.

You can use the subscription options to keep up with new articles. There isn’t a PDF version, as this is website is funded by ads, and if people don’t come here to read the posts there quite literally won’t be any more of them

I need help I have been trying to create a profile so that when I plug in my headset it will read incoming SMS messages and when I unplug the headset it will stop. My research online has given me a start. I have created two profiles. 1st profile received SMS with a context using the say command%SMSRN sent the following message :%SMSRB
next I have a state with headset plugged in any with the context profile status %SMSRN sent the following message :%SMSRB now this is as far as I can get I have set up an exit task with profile status %SMSRN sent the following message :%SMSRB inverted. Well when I plug in headset it reads SMS messages and it continues to when unplugged until I turn profiles off. I commute daily on busses and trains and would love to have this work.

I didn’t understand a lot of what you said there, but the way you would go about making that profile is a single profile that combines a text received event context and a headset connected state context, then simply use Say to speak whatever SMS-related variable you want. Like I said, can’t understand what you’re saying you’ve done, but sounds like you’re not aware that you can have multiple contexts per profile

Like I said, you only need a single profile to achieve this, not two, and no exit tasks. You need to specify two contexts for the same profile. Scrap everything you have and just make a new profile from scratch. Start by adding the Received Text context from Event/Phone/, then add the task to Say what you want it to say. Save the profile. Then long press on the context for that profile, select Add, and add the Headset Plugged state context. That’s it, that’s all you need. You’ve just created a profile that will run its task every time a text is received, BUT only if the headset is plugged in. The multicontext concept is covered in our beginner’s guide, even the very first part, so I do suggest taking a look at that

XDA is great for a lot of things, but I do think we have them beat quite thoroughly when it comes to Tasker :)

I am looking for a profile that Will recognize a bluetooth trying to connect (bt currently off) than it will turn on the bt and connect it.
It will be usefull when i am in my car and forget to turn on the phones bt..
There is a solution?

The Bluetooth radio is the only way the phone can detect Bluetooth signals, so if you turn it on, no, you can’t use it to detect Bluetooth signals. If your phone supports NFC you can slap a NFC sticker to where your phone is in the car and have that trigger Bluetooth

I read your post about the NFC tags and looked into it. Wow this opens up many possibilities I just ordered a kit and installed the app. I’m going to link this with tasker and have Bluetooth turn on in the car load google maps turn off wifi and turn on mobile data. I will use it at home and work to connect to networks, the cell near in tasker keeps dropping the connection when it cycles through towers.

Thanks for this tutorial. I have a RAZR MAXX and am experiencing unusually battery drain from Google Maps/ Location Access wake locks. I’d like to create a task that allows the Google Location Access switch to be turned off when the screen is off and I’m not charging the phone. I’m thinking this will prevent unnecessary wake locks that drain my battery while I’m not using my phone. Is this something you could create? This would solve a major problem for a lot of Android users.

I’m sorry, but that’s something you’ll have to create yourself after learning how to use Tasker

Hey I cant find any help on this so here it goes: when I get in my car and turn bluetooth on the phone connects to the phone part of bluetooth it does not connect to the media part. Is there anyway to have tasker atomatically connect the media part too when I connect to the car?

Hi, thanks for this. I was thinking about trying to write an app for myself but it sounds like this might save me the effort – no point in re-inventing the wheel! Can it do things such as:

– Enable/disable settings (GPS, Bluetooth, MobileData) on connecting to a WiFi (and perhaps some actions specific to a given WiFi) and reset on disconnecting?

– Enable/disable settings (Bluetooth, WiFi) when travelling above a given speed threshold, and reset once you’ve been back below that speed for a certain amount of time?

I have AutoVoice setup to set my %SpeedLimit variable. What I’m having issue with is how do I trigger AutoLocation to fire every 15 seconds? Also, I see that AutoLocation has a variable called %alspeed, but don’t see it in the list of variables. Do I use %alspeed or use %LOCSPD and convert it to MPH?

I am trying to turn my GPS on using a macro. I selected the Input catedory and then the Dpac action but this option is unavailable on my device (Samsung S3 with android version 4.1.2).

I implemented a lock screen (scene) with autoremote and the problem is when it’s enabled it does not allow access to making emergency calls or SMS; is there a way to allow this functionality with the lock scene enabled?

So I’ve been trying to get my phone to make calls via Autovoice (my voice command is, “computer call ‘xxxx’ “). However, most of my contacts have house numbers, mobile numbers, and work numbers. I want to specify which number I want to call. I’ve been trying to get this to work for a while now without any luck. I’m trying to get my command to be, “computer call ‘xxxx’ ‘house/mobile/work’ “. How on earth do I get this to work right?

I’ve tried a bunch of variations. This is what I originally started working with and it only calls the default number for my contacts:
