So I won a famicom on eBay with a couple of games. Listed as untested I had no idea what to expect.

So it arrived and was heavily yellowed but first thing I noticed was the RF port had been replaced with a 3.5mm jack. It is AV modded and provides a nice picture. It also included two games, Golf and Sumo Wrestling.

So I was happy with my purchase however I didn't like the fact the controllers are hard wired and the cable is so short. I could have used longer cables to rewire the controllers but didn't want to mess with it so off I went to google to find a solution.

I found a pinout for the front expansion port and it provides player 1 & 2 connections so I figured I could make an adapter and use my NES controllers.

The expansion is a 15 pin port (like the old pc game port) however my first problem was that the pins on the expansion port are recessed so a standard DB15 connector didn't plug in far enough. I discovered that a neo geo controller extension would fit fine and ordered one.

It arrived and so I set about giving it a quick try using some pins pushed into the nes controller and all worked ok.

Now it was time to make it look a bit better and also wire up player 2. Using a small project box I built a small board and housed everything inside.

Lid on and looking quite nice. Best of all players 1 and 2 both work and I can sit on the sofa instead of the floor to play.
