First off I apologize if this question has already been addressed however I do want to get your current opinion since things change over time. Im looking to pick up a laptop stand since im switching up my mobile rig. Im looking for something sturdy that sets up and breaks down quickly. My local Guitar Center store only carries this one

Any help is appreciated.

crane, ubertand, odessy m...... look those up

the_black_one 6:01 PM - 26 May, 2010

ubertand = uberstand

djayace 6:09 PM - 26 May, 2010

@the_black_one have you used all of those brands? If so which do you prefer and why?

REASON: The first odyssey stand was given to me. It was my first stand ever and I loved it. The more I used it the more I hated it. It was too bulky to travel.

Then I upgraded to the second odyssey stand. It was the best stand I've ever seen. And by adding the tray, it made it the perfect stand. The height was better than any other stand Ive used, u can put your serato box or External drive on the tray. My problem with this one, its heavy and even broken down, its was bulky to fit in any bag. This stand ripped my backpack.

The uberstand is a good stand. NOT GREAT JUST GOOD. Setting up and taking down has never been so easy. The tray is a nice addition, but be careful, it has sharp edges. You can put your serato box on it, but just dont move the tray alot because its easy to come off. This stand comes with ZIPTIES. Some use them some dont. Its all up to you. I use it for security purpose. It doesnt feel right if I dont put them on. THis stand is so thin too, it will fit perfectly fine in any bag.

The CRANE STAND is a nice piece of item. Ive seen it in person and it worked great. One thing I didnt like is that it doesnt comce with a tray. And its also not worth the price tag.

the_black_one 6:33 PM - 26 May, 2010

uberstand and crane. I have both. recommend both. The crane is more expensive but has more adjustment points, the uberstand is the fastest easiest to set up.

djayace 7:03 PM - 26 May, 2010

crane looks dope and the uberstand looks promising. I like the thin format of the uberstand. Has anyone tried the Dr Pro from Guitar Center?

djsatony 9:36 PM - 26 May, 2010

I have the uberstand..Does anyone know if theres a way to tilt it forward (where you put the laptop) like how the odyssey stands are?? I don't like it because its too straight

That was my gripe about the Uberstand. So I shelled out $$$ for the Crane stand and like it a lot. Although it's not as slim as the Uberstand (but still portable), I don't intend on ever taking the stand out for gigs.

Laz219 12:41 AM - 27 May, 2010

I remember someone pointing out on here some uberstands actually were built to tilt forward.
I haven't seen my uberstand for months (no idea where it got to) but from memory of the design, I think if you sanded down a bit at the top of the stem it would tilt it forward.

Laz219 5:28 AM - 27 May, 2010

Just bought myself a Crane today, definitely the best laptop stand I've ever used.

I have pictures somewhere on this forum.

djayace 5:52 PM - 27 May, 2010

I bought the dr pro just to test it out and found out that I actually prefer something that breaks down easy. Dr pro doesnt break down easy in my opinion. Looks as though the uberstand folds into itself quickly. Can any uberstand users confirm the ease of breaking down and setting up? Seems as though the crane is tough to break down as well.

HYDRO MATIC 6:00 PM - 27 May, 2010

sets up in 2-3 secs max...same with break down...

djayace 6:10 PM - 27 May, 2010

@HYDRO MATIC now that sounds like what i need! Do any of the other stands mentioned in this thread have similar ease of breakdown and setup?

sacrilicious 6:13 PM - 27 May, 2010

Crane stand takes about six seconds to setup, and that's with picking whichever custom angle you happen to want it at.

dj-freestyle 6:29 PM - 27 May, 2010

I have both and the uberstand is much better for mobil work, i keep the other in my studio now.

DJBIGWIZ 6:42 PM - 27 May, 2010

Crane stand if you c@an swing it or Uber stand.

its actually tilted/angled downward just a bit when u look it at the side with ur laptop on it...i have it,its great...serves its purpose well....

Laz219 10:22 PM - 27 May, 2010

The Crane is really easy to setup/teardown. It's essentially the same as the Uberstand in folding besides having to undo the cam levers to make it move.

djayace 6:19 PM - 29 May, 2010

thank you guys for helping me out on this. im gonna try the uberstand first then the crane stand if the uber dont cut it. ill chim in again once i get the uberstand in hand.

DjLogan 2:30 PM - 1 June, 2010

Uberstand Myself

DJJorel 9:06 PM - 1 June, 2010

I would defnitely get the Crane Stand. I know it's pricey, but look at it this way. The stand is keeping your $2000+ laptop secure. With your music and videos on there, the value of the laptop can easily skyrocket....

So, a $200 investment in a stand that is as secure as the Crane is easily worth it...

DJYoshi 2:26 PM - 15 September, 2011

Crane...10000 times over.... and not b/c they're a sponsor..but b/c they actually have a solid product... it's the Rolls Royce of stands...

dj-freestyle 4:49 PM - 15 September, 2011

I love my magma 2.1 when im using my denon midi controller but its not built like my crane. ive used them all and the crane is built the best by far. period

canicypher 4:37 AM - 16 September, 2011

I bit the bullet and shelled out for the Crane and its well worth it..although i'd prefer if the bottom was more like a fork lift then just one bar...but it works. The odyssey L stand is a pos... Hard to adjust, harder to transport.

Dj Wunder 4:45 AM - 17 September, 2011

The Crane can't clamp to the side of a coffin, can it? What's the best stand that clamps?

DeeJayRobz 11:00 PM - 17 September, 2011

I've used an Oddysey stand with case clamps on it, only downside is theres no center tray for the interface/harddrive.

oddessy standy is bit heavy, but great because you can adjust angle of stand.

swaggadagga 9:21 PM - 22 September, 2011

The crane is not worth the $160. They need to lower the price seeing that you have to glue all the rubber fitting which break or fall out. I lost 2 fittings the second time i used it. And trying to get the tray to hold anything is is a bitch!

Yes, but you can adjust the angle of the bottom bar, which gives you more lift/height.

DjKStones 7:15 AM - 13 June, 2013

I purchased the Uberstand today then came home and read reviews on other stands. I purchased the original Crane on Amazon. Does anyone have an opinion on the standard Crane vs. The Crane Pro? I didn't know there were two different versions before I purchased it, but I'm hoping it still does the trick :) Thanks!

Code:E 7:23 AM - 13 June, 2013

Though I don't love the Crane stand, it appears to be the best portable on on the market.

Funkytownstopsix 1:10 PM - 13 June, 2013

I have the uberstand and have always loved it. Flip it out and it's set up. That crane looks cool and if I didn't have the uber I would buy it simply because it looks cool... : )

Dj matty k 1:24 PM - 13 June, 2013

I first got the uberstand and used if Gor ages but just felt it wasn't stable enough so I then got the crane normal stand and was much better but will be getting the crane pro next . But I also got the griffin stand for a venue I Dj at because it works much better without being so high :-) but the crane pro is defo next on my list :-)

Going from a uberstand to a crane is a huge step up in stability, and flexibility.
I just watched a video of a scratch set and watching the guys laptop bounce around on his uberstand is something I do not miss at all.

you might have ended up with a return, floor model or even worse.... billed for a crane, given an oddessy

My first one wasn't actually in a box, but I think that was because I found it in the shop and it wasn't even officially a product they sold yet...Think I took the only one they had at that point.

DJ Reflex 5:19 AM - 19 June, 2013

I use the opposite extensions on the keyboard stands to hold my laptop. A strip of velcro ensures that it doesn't move or vibrate. It works well, but the stands have to be pretty well centered and level.

Well I did a post on my FB asking any local dj's if they wanted to get in on the order. I got 6 in my cart so far. But before I order I would really like to know the answer to my 1st question. Po vs plus? a difference?

Joshua Carl 2:38 PM - 28 June, 2013

The pro is that crazy grade future aluminum
Comes on black only (the one they ran over with a plane)

The plus is powder- coated steel

Really, at the end of the day it's color
the pro is indestructible ( prett much)
And the plus is really really tough
(And obviously a tad heavier)

Dj Mcwhite 3:00 PM - 28 June, 2013

I have a crane stand standard. Think they replaced it with the plus. If you are doin some serious giging id prob go with a pro but honestly the plus will get the job done. You cant adjust the hight or angle with the plus but its already in a good position and a lot cheaper.

Joshua Carl 5:25 PM - 28 June, 2013

the crane STANDARD is pretty much stuck where its at:

It's very very heavy, has a lot of potentially lost parts, breakdown is a pain
The +
You can Lock your computer into the stand
And it's super heavy. (Hard to tip or anything)

DJ_X_Trodinaire 11:22 PM - 1 July, 2013

Just received my UDG laptop Stand

instagram.com

Pros:
I like the fact it has dual feet. Cough Crane Cough. been waiting for you to make the Centerstage again. You're loosing money.
Dual feet much much more stable.
Now I can slide it in between my coffin top and case (middle)
Adjustable height.
Swivel laptop shelf
Never owned a Crane yet. (ordered) but i do like these lock levers.

Cons
Weight.

I have been using Uberstand since it came out and had no issues with it.

i ended up with one of these, and the angle is adjustable, you just loosen the screws in the back and then tighten at the angle.

this was for a club, so i dont have to break it down, and the only downside is the large base, because it may not easily fit underneath all mixers. i really dig it though.
