Hi there, Can anyone point me in the right direction. I have a C7 V2 running 154027 firmware from TP-Link. What flash firmware DD WRT can one use? OR where should I start?

make sure you do factory reset before you flash
better use telnet
The following requires that DD-WRT already be installed on your router, and Telnet (or SSH) services be enabled and accessible.
Telnet (or SSH) into 192.168.1.1 or you current router IP

Thanks guys for the assistance.
I did manage to flash the router by doing the factory flash first and then the tplink_archer-c7-v2-US.bin.

Everything worked as suggested. I am facing another issue right now but I dont know if its related to the flash upgrade.

When plugging the C7 into my ISP modem I am not getting any internet connection when I am plugged into the C7. When i logged in it was giving me a WAN address of 192.168.1.80. When I changed the WAN setup to DHCP I got 0.0.0.0...trace routing to 8.8.8.8 gets to 192.168.1.1(DD-WRT) and then stops.

IS there something I missed? Does the ISP modem not accept the connection now?

Hello,
You need to figure out which type of WAN connection you have, DHCP, PPPoE, static, etc. Then set dd-wrt to that and it should work. If all else fails, call the ISP and ask them what type of connection you have. It sounds like you do not have a DHCP connection.

I just bought a C7 v2, and the only thing i have to do is upgrade the firmware in my tplink interface to: tplink_archer-c7-v2.bin and thats it? now i will have DD-WRT? i have read some other topics, but i have little trouble with understanding as a woman.

No. This file is to be used if you are already running DD-WRT firmware.

So, for the FIRST upgrade from TP-Link to DD-WRT firmware you should use the file "factory-to-ddwrt.bin" (or "factory-to-ddwrt-US.bin" if your router is a US model). Just go to the firmware upgrade in original TP-Link firmware and use this file. As simple as this.

After you are already running DD-WRT firmware, then you should use the file "tplink_archer-c7-v2.bin" (or "tplink_archer-c7-v2-US.bin" if your router is a US model) for upgrading (or downgrading) to other DD-WRT firmware version. It is always recommended to reset the factory defaults after installing any DD-WRT firmware.

You can find these files for the most recent build at ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/07-01-2016-r30082/tplink_archer-c7-v2/

If for any reason you want to revert back from DD-WRT to the original TP-Link, you should use the file "ArcherC7v2_webrevert.bin" from DD-WRT firmware upgrade.

Will I lose any feature from the original firmware or speed? I want to try dd-wrt maybe it will solve a problem I'm having where the 5ghz network keep disappearing randomly and only fixed with a restart.

1. dd-wrt has more features

I don't know why the 802.11n speed is much slower on dd-wrt. It could be a bug with the current release or I have used the US version of the firmware instead of the regular version.

I did not test the NAT hardware acceleration since I was testing in AP mode. Dont't know if dd-wrt has NAT hardware acceleration for Atheros routers (I usually use Broadcom based routers). The stock firmware really doesn't have an AP mode, but you can configure to kind of work in AP mode (by not using the WAN port and disabling DHCP).

Thank you very much for the detailed answer. Sounds very good results. I can't wait to replace the stock firmware. I'm tired of the 5ghz network disappearing and interrupting my work. and their bad support.

Hey guys, I did manage to get internet activity after changing the IP of my router to a different subnet...So my ISP GW: 192.168.1.254, TP-Link WAN 192.168.1.65, router IP :192.168.2.1...as soon as I configured the open vpn client on the TP-Link and enabled it I lose internet connectivity. VPN connection is good and status is connected. When I disable the open vpn client my internet returns!
