Doodad is a new service that lets you use your smartphone wherever you travel without fear of an expensive bill full of roaming charges waiting for you when you get back home. Just order one of their prepaid SIM cards for your device, load it up with as much data as you think you'll need, and head to the airport.

Doodad is probably the simplest service of its kind I've ever seen. The service supports over 54 countries at affordable flat-rate per-MB rates that vary based on where you're traveling. You'll need an account with Doodad and a compatible unlocked phone for Doodad to work (which, if your phone is still on contract and your carrier isn't the one doing the unlocking, may be illegal where you live. Note, some carriers will unlock your phone for you if you ask them). From there, order your Doodad, slap it into your smartphone, and then charge up your account with as much data as you want. You can even set daily data caps for yourself so you only spend as much as you want.

From there, you're ready to travel, and since the data is prepaid, you can just connect to the wireless network where you're going, and you're all set. You can add data if you find yourself running out too quickly, or reload your Doodad on the go—the service will always allow you to at least reach their site to reload, even if you've run out of data. The service just launched today, so hit the link below to learn more about it and sign up if you're planning a trip.
