So an older family friend asked me to help him with WiFi coverage at his home. He is using his ISP router now which is installed in the front corner of the hose as Comcast tends to do and signal is OK in most of the house but falls off a cliff when you go into the addition in the back, presumably because there is an exterior wall in the way. There is Ethernet going to a former office in the back so I don't need a mesh, just a wired access point.
I manage a ton of UniFi gear for work so that would have been my first thought, but I don't want to have to manage this on my controller. I want something that will be set and forget, and by the time he needs to do something with it he'll have forgotten who installed it. So anyone needs to be able to log into it with a password, not cloud managed. Budget is under $200 ideally. No need for super high speed but I'd like it decently modern, definitely 5 GHz support. Any recommendations? Thanks.
