I like it ::)

great effects...

PS: Runs great on an AMD 3200 + 128 9800Pro at 1024*768....

Good stuff!

No ribbons, no depth of field and a good framerate?! WTF?!

nice shit.

very nice although i wish it would've dared drifting away from the ambient occlusion look.

Yum

really nice. visuals and music work together to create a great atmosphere. love the design. love the pace. love the arrows ;)

ham-slappingly good

To save embarrassment of certain people: Thumb down.

Proper comment when I've seen it on decent hardware :)

Smash never disappoints, and this is yet another masterpiece.

Even Devistator did a great job. Credit where it's due!

Uh, oooh, it's soo big!

<3

Really nice prod. Nice style, nice music, nice graphics. Nice.

SILLY WALKS!!!

cool nfo

Brilliant stuff indeed!

First time smash has done something that I really like, silly walk and all.

Smash me baby! yeay!

Looking forword to your next flt or ukallstars demo smash!

some striking scenes!

Looks terribly low-poly here and there. Nevertheless I love you.

If I liked the music more this would've been instant love.

But even without that: Very great demo. AO still works really nicely, and the whole thing flows just too well. And it had tea cups and silly walks in it. ;)

this is simply brilliant. great work

crashed after the arrow-trees (which were really cool btw :)

Nice music and nice style.
But I think, it doesn't fit together.
Put the MSVCP71.DLL in the archive!

Great flow and... growing stuff ;-)

sooooooooo good...

great!

i thought this was outstanding - the leaves scene notably - and it fits together really well

Great prod, thanx again :) Releases from Sundown are getting better and better imo

any chance for a video of this one?

not enough exploding of amps.

nice

was that blue bar in the second effect a bug or a design feature?
eitherway, the arrow urban jungle scene taking off did it for me.

This is great!

I love it, nice flow, nice scenes and the music <3

->Smash
-->KEiTO
--->Devistator
Thanks :)

kute. the growing arrow jungle was awesome and the use of the fog really brill. plus big respect to keito for the zik.

splendid!

glöp glöp!

I demand video :))

bloody sweet

nice

Great demo but I don't like how the music connects to the demo... the music is not enough monochromatic (not that it's a bad music) :P

It crashed here during the trees scene.

And those arrows are ribbonish enough for me.

quality street :)

smooth! I loved the way that guy went up in smoke near the end. Also the buildings with lots of arrow-vegetation looked great

Nice one!! ;)

great job .. AO is just phat .. and the "leaf scene" _dO.Ob_ .. how's the count ??
exception: the music .. not so my style .. doesnt count, ok ..

A bunch of reused effects. Still, kicks ass.

ole!

top stuff! looks like you've reduced the quality of some things since the party version though (lower quality jpegs, fewer polys in some meshes)?

Everything is great except a music.

This is totally cool! :) Very nice ideas here, I specially like the greetings part. The music is not really my cup of tea but it fits nicely nevertheless. I just don't like this particular style of music. ;) Anyway, great demo! Extra BB Image for the .nfo :)

what iq said!

Wow, different and _good_, those flying arrows are really cool. lol nfo!

!

Special thumb for the sound!!!

cool ambiance.

black screen...

Ah, the difference modern hardware makes! In 640x480 you actually can't really see some of the effects enough to get an idea of the quality, especially without AA.

So, the demo. Overall, great, plenty of content, the tune rules (not really my taste, but it's a good tune well made and fits the demo, so i like it), and the code is good as always. The sparrow scenes were really great (and who would have thought sparrows would make for a cool demo effect? =)

Some minor 'could be better next time' stuff - a few of the models and textures looked a bit low res, but the rest was fine (which was wierd after media error, where everything was high res but looked low res, guess it was the low res render target for the fish eye effect on that one).

I also had the 'blue line' just before the tv scene, but only on my work pc with a gf5 series video card, it didn't show up at home on my ati card. Kind of a thick blue stripe across the screen - I thought it might be a design feature too, if a bit of a shit one :)

Oh yes, and you've totally and utterly failed to get those thumb downs. Wtf happened to pouet, an outbreak of reasonableness?!

damN.! i just had to show that Silly Walks-Stuff to a friend of mine...i mean,WTF...it´s 2007 and he still did NOT know about the ´Ministry of Silly Walks´...!!
...Route 1066 got me directly from the beginning on...thanx,k8o-m8.!! Your Zak giveZ it that Special-Flow.! i f#*in like that Demo.! :)

The Downbeat track totally rocks.
Some nice scenes and efx... :-)

the city-scape with the hand totally rocks!

great

Fanatastic! One of the top five demos for 2007... everything fits together nicely: great design and graphics, good and different music, John Cleese, detailed 3d scenes. This is for sure the epitome of Smash's trademark ribbon/city/graffiti-productions. Btw, had a good laugh reading the info :) Heads up, as long as you crank out demos of this high quality I couldn't care less if it contains ribbons and the like...

BTW: On first try, this crashed after the arrow trees on my comp too, just like Gloom experienced. But after deselecting AA in the setup and setting my geforce to fixed 4xAA everything worked and looked fine. So this might be of some help...

psionice: the lack of thumbs down could perhaps be connected with the fact that this demo doesn't show any of that pretentiousness that kept at least me from thumbing up the last few FLT demos :)

wow.. it rocks

probably better than media error, when it comes down to it (at least, it runs much faster and takes nowhere near as long to load). if only the silly walks were animated, that would rule. :)

Really kool. Imo better that the last FLT demos. Seems you relax more out of FLT, Smash. And that makes the result better ;)

Totally awsome track from Keito.
If I should should find anything to dis on, the only thing would be the Columbo with uzi "stencil" at the end. I know BANKSY is hype theese days, but that stencil doesnt make sence to me (then again...taste is taste ;)

It runs(!). But I think >50% of the effects are missing. Video pls.

cool!

Fantastic work, love the mood, music, design and overall attitude. Had to run this on a low resolution but it still looked superb. (My only compliant is the fact Devistator`s logo jumped on and off to quickly to take a proper peek!)

(love the cities in the sky as the greetings signs scroll by)

tft: it was just fun to make that stencil.. nothing political to be made there. I just thought, wouldnt it be ace if columbo didnt actually go into the details of why he is arresting the criminal and just mow them down with an uzi instead? :) Columbo is our adopted mascot from over the pond so he had to go in ;)

oh btw.. there are more stencil artists other than banksy in the uk.

We should have a video up soonish for those who havent been able to watch it on older hardware.

Oh yeah, I noticed Columbo. I FUCKING LOVE THAT GUY!!!

at a second run (in windowed mode) it didn't crash so i got to see it through to the end.

the demo seems to suffer from low-res textures here and there, and also a massive re-use of old code (which is fine, but doesn't really bring anything new to the table). the arrow-leaves were dead cool, but i have to say that the music felt totally uninspired (and also the mix was crap, with stuff popping out here and there) and left a "rush-job" impression.

also, it was simply too black and white, with no colors for contrast - got a bit boring. still - beats most other "code-rehash-fast-music"-demos, so thumb it up i say :)

video?

tho i like flt's attempts of bringing motion design trends to realtime, this one is so much closer to the heart that i just can't resist=)
this demo rox

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqhlQfXUk7w&mode=related&search=

Rulez! And great hip hop tune!!

i remember swapping with Lee as a kid and having to suffer his "urban graffiti" logos. i hated 'em. seems his psudo-urban fetish fits in nicely with Fairlight prods tho. :)))

nice job lads!

Total Awesome Gfx Code and soundtrack The scene with jungle town is very impressive.

.. and some others settle for non-proportional fonts!

The battle of Hastings is the Shit!
And so is the Ministry of Silly Walks.

One of non-boring-non-full-of-grafitti-nigga demo. FLT are silly walking, cool. Music design everything is okay in this demo,

crashed before the jungle-scene. (X1600, WinXP)
but i didnt like the music anyway, so i guess its a pig.

Not bad. It has a style. Not a fan of rap/hip-hop. Jazz was nice.

I don't get it, all of the latest fairlight demos and this demo crash my system real bad after running for some time. I haven't tried turning off AA yet though.

Commodore: who is this Lee that you are talking about? and who are you?

Nice gfx, love the music, it's a bit slow on my old machine though.
The Baked AO is getting old though, might be cool again if it was actually realtime or something...

Ace demo, nice atmosphere, plenty of clever design bits, inovative use of code, all served to a delightful soundtrack. Very good work boys.

i watched this again and noticed the john cleese hanging upside down from a tree :D

crashed in the middle

great demo filled with clever ideas and use of effects, only negative thing is that its too grey for my liking

Simply great.

Thanks for adding the 5:4 aspect setting smash.

I think cleese could have been put to better use, and I don't really know what he was doing there. On the other hand, mediocrity and death ftw

doesnt run on my 486 ... :D

i like that style, it's great and deserves nothing else but a thumb up

best demo I've seen in a while! as hollow said it was a bit too grey, but wtf, what was in there was worth a thumb easily!

Crashes for me (like some others also experienced) after the "arrows flocking around trees"-scene.
Tried some different settings, but it always crashes in the exact same spot.

System:
C2D, XPSP2, 8800GTS w 160.03 drivers.

Just try the workaround I posted one page ago... did the trick for my 8600GTS.

sexylicious

i love it!

lovely

nice! what about a -real- video? youtube is teh suck..

awesome...also nice one by keito

runs smoothy here. looks terrific! bravo! just bravo!

The scene with the growing "creepers" and the flying leafs is worth a thumb up alone.

good show. The trees and "leaves" are too ambitious for realtime in my opnion, and I prefer the city surfaces, spotlights and the hallmark grafitti together with the (still cool) fluid-effect in the end. Nice touch to keep everything (except the logo-bg) in b/w.

forgot to mention the tune, it's nize.

nice

Fabulous !
Deserve a CDC

Hey smash.. Good job... too bad it kept you soo busy at the party.. would have loved to drink a bit more together.. make sure for bp08 you get the prod done early enough ;)

From the .nfo:

"Let's be honest. You aren't going to like this demo. It contains a lot of arrows, ribbons, graffiti and hip hop. Some of the code is reused, and you will find that boring. It contains dark british humour. It's solely done for the sake of showing some design ideas, there's no effects to stand and applaud about. It's not colourful. It doesn't have a party-shaking bass drum in it. The filesize is 35mb, which is way more than the 64k you would like it to be. It won't even run on a 7 year old pc, and it doesn't have as nice effects as the latest NVIDIA DX10 tech demo.
It wasn't the result of a team of professional artists working 12 hour days for 6 months. It doesnt have any sci-fi or goth elements. It doesnt have any cubes, glenz vectors, copper bars or scroll texts. It is not in any way cute. It is the opposite of everything you want to see in a demo. Just don't bother watching and save yourself the anger it will cause you. You might get an ulcer. Nobody likes ulcers.
In fact, just go to your favourite demoscene flamebait site and thumb it down directly without watching it."

I can't remember when i was laughing so much while reading any release notes. This text itself is forcing me to watch it :) But right now i'm in work on my Duron 800, so i will save it for home...

nice

This demo is... Oh shit the nfo killed the online gameplay ><

This is very, very good. Fairlight technical stuff with style and without the boring. I even like the music.

whoah, good!

really nice!

Monumental.

excellent - i think this is my favorite demo for this year up to now. music, graphics, direction, effects - everything has style and taste and wit.

Good: music, tech, direction and silly walks.
Bad: low-polyness here and tehre.

Overall, very good.

great show! this one has all you need - refreshing music, smart design, superb direction & cool scenes (esp. silly walks).

heavy. excellent execution.

In my opinion, this is an absolute masterpiece. Brilliant art combined with a top notch soundtrack (you go, Keito!) and Smash's trademark style/effects. To me it feels a bit like this demo was a relief for the creators, most notably for Smash. Less Fairlight-pressure, and more "ah let's screw it, we'll just have a blast" and it seems to me like this has lead to a better result. Top notch, guys. (*applauds*). To me personally, one of the best demos of the year so far.

ace

IMO best Fairlight prod with smash as director. Features all the effects we've already seen but this time everything goes fluently. There are some monumental scenes which I like a lot. The only thing that disturbs me all the time are those artificial camera moves with critical or topping points on curves. They cause very rapid orientation changes that I dislike. I assume that you're using LW for previewing your camera moves. Try to concentrate more on the camera or implement two or three point camera - in LW use targeting. This will surely lead you to a true masterpiece.

damn, its of course not a Fairlight production :P

"In fact, just go to your favourite demoscene flamebait site and thumb it down directly without watching it."

reverse psychology ftw

yeah...reverse psychology working out....this time...!! (next one trying that won´t have the same reaction.!)
...but its still a prod deserving it.!! ;)

it=closer attention.!

YES!

Absolutely brilliant demo!

Quite a load of material. I liked the "growing concrete jungle" almost more than the leaf-tree- scenes. Yes sir, I like Jazz and also seeing Columbo hiding his Uzi is priceless.

I love it! My favorite flt demo so far. Your productivity is inbelivable.

.

Brilliant. Bloody brilliant. I cant even say why but it feels so under control, nothing random, eveything where it should be, nothing left to chance. Also, it worked without eating my PC. Wholly consistent. Oh and Ministry.

I don't comment much, i just silently watch, but i have to.
The .nfo was fun to read. But this... This is THE SHIT!! I can't easily explain it, but this moved me. One of the best things i've seen. Superb atmosphere and overall execution. And soundtrack. I really don't like any hip-hop style music, so how did u manage that i love it?! F..k I loved Track One and i love this, thx :)

art

This must've been by far one of the most pleasant surprises of the year. Great fx, music, visuals and humor. I'm loving it!

Have to agree with Bonzaj on the camera paths though :)

Thank you for entertaining me.

good idea :)

The music kills this one for me.
To quote StingRay (he loves this phrase):
Utterly boring...

Nice effects, well the trees i liked them, and black white transfers for me a nice ambience

Vey enjoyable ... and the music is quite inspiring !

Very nice ! Acid Jazz and B&W atmosphere simply perfect... nice trip !

THIS IS NOT A FUCKING FAIRLIGHT DEMO

nice. got a crash about 1.5 mins into it though

.

more graff next time plz :) proper piece of work, lovely mate

Saw it, and thumb indefinately...

...followed by a hand flipping off...followed by...;)

not my taste

boring

cool

Excellence!

Not my fave style but still awesome work

Great show, nice geometry tricks - stylishly put together.

totally sick!

works like a charm

Just to note that the Video links have temporarily been taken down while they are moved and uploaded to scene.org which will be done this weekend.

And thanks for the great response everyone :)

same problem as CP. Crashes like a rabid toddler on XP with a 8600MGTwhatever

im blaming the dodgy 8xxx series drivers here, because d3d doesnt throw any issues and it's fine on the tested machines. :) although if anyone gets a reliable crash and is up for a debug session sometime, drop me a mail.

wow...
the group name roxx :)

There's also a bug in the radeon 2000 series drivers I reckon, it worked fine for me until I updated, then it crashed halfway through. That's with a 2600xt.

Stylish stuff!

neato

BB Image

rule of thumb: the thumb always rules

Hot demo ! I especially liked the ending.

You crazy son of a bitches!

Me like that :)
Runs fine on my outdated processor :)

What a nice demo. Stylish, artsy... It's that good. I run it at 1920x1200, had my headphones on and it was brilliant! Thank you guys :) Peace

Kewl demo!

Nice, next time can we have some chav's outside McDonalds? ;)

Thanks for this!

COLUMBO \:D/

Nice. Really nice. I love the chilled out style/pace, and the tune is great.

Made me hot, made me move, made me dance... and the nfo made me laugh. Made me want to see more uk crossover stuff, too :) Very funky, cool and enjoyable demo.

Very nice!!

please, change the video link to scene.org

Quite Fairlight like, huh? =)
Nice concept and effects. Relaxing to view!
Could need some more polishing though ...

Very nice. To my surprise it even ran quite nicely on P4 2.4GHz / Radeon 9500 Pro in 1024x768 4xAA. You rock!

Video links now updated, thanks Reed <3

good demo

Well, what can I say. It was very boring, had some lame effects, and the soundtrack wasn't disco-industrial. I hate it very much. The worst parts were the one with the tv-screens, the tree-part and the "men in front of buildings"-part. Those really made me want to vomit.

Just kidding ;) Looking foward to watching it with a new gfx card that I just ordered :D

fantastic design, nice music!

unverhofft kommt oft

ministry of silly walks :D
nice mographs.alike flybiez

40 mb? why not just releasing a video?

ukscene allstars are better than fairlight!

Poor colors, lack of naked women, no cats.
As I did not told before, my last cats were females, and were holding a colored foufoune.
Black foufounes on whhite or brown hairs, and Mona has a white foufoune of black hairs.
Maybe another times...

Had some uncool framedrops during the things-growing-on-buildings and the following massive-amount-of-arrows-in-the-air scenes. ATI x1600 256MB VRAM, XP/SP2.

Cool demo nonetheless, and I would like to rebuttle Gloom's statement about the soundmix. The only thing not done right are the vocal samples, which are too hissy. Good show!

groovy

fuckings to marcel, the glopper who dares to piss against the wind!!!!111

impressive.

Yeah! - very nice indeed!

great effects and overall design

This is way better then their previous overambitious assembly 07 crap. Nice style and effects.

all nice.

Every single resource in this prod is as good as it gets. O_o--b

I really liked this.

Quote:

This is way better then their previous overambitious assembly 07 crap.

wow, i had no idea ukscene allstars released a demo at assembly 07.

Smooth

very nice visuals and a pretty good soundtrack, but somehow they didn't fit together as a demo. oh, well...

nice job

reed: people tend to remember only one member from a group.

Then again, the style could confuse somebody :)

really cool

Stylish! Thumb up!

Crashed about 2:24 in. Looking good until then, though.

A damn good prod with a damn good feeling!
Even my wife liked both music and visuals, so it MUST be cool! ;P

This really is so impressive! I can't believe how far Smash and Devistator have come and that the UK scene finally has some serious contribution to make!

Some scenes are really great (city on clouds). Amazing demo. The soundtrack, somehow, doesn't fit the overall feeling. Thumb up anyway for the code and design ! Go UK go !

Thumbs up for the lovely gfx, routines and spoken audio bits but the musical side and the overall experience was way too yawnsville for me.

Wow, now that is so not my cup of tea, I can't describe it. Not only, but mainly because of the music.
If it wasn't for the great code and nice AO it would've been a thumb down for me

wow, what can i say... great. completely missed this for some reason.

i know, ukscene allstars isn't flt+cncd, but still, compare this with halfsome/media error - what a difference! (it's fairer than most demo comparisons because the set pieces are basically the same here :). it not only has none of that overly self-conscious "we are sooo hip" vibe (big improvement in my eyes), it also adds in the flow that's been so conspicuously absent in those two demos - this time, even the arrows are (literally! :)) going somewhere.

soundtrack seems to be somewhat controversial, but i thought it was great. oh, and for an added bonus, hooray for a reasonable loading time!

massive vibe

Something special.

Very nice demo! I like all these arrows.

The visuals are awesome! The sound kind of fits though it does remind me of starbucks background musak meets suburban hip hop -still enjoyable.

Excellent!

stylish! cool music!

phenomenal

Links to the videos don´t work. :(

OK now that was fucking ace.

BB Image

yes very stylish. ilove it

nice ambient =)

z0r

How could I forget thumbing this up? Everything about it is awesome! You deserve another thumb for the silly walks reference but these guys won't let me.

well... is ok for me..
nice trees :)

Just awesome, I love it, really cool style, it even runs on my 3 years old laptop which is cool because I was getting somewhat borred of capped.tv :)
Thanks for the mind trip.

great

Not my style but damn great neverthless

excellent

The start is a bit dull, but then it got awesome.

nice ideas and relaxed soundtrack. Good!

This demo blows my mind. Awesome visuals and great soundtrack to boot. Big thumbs up ;)

ukscene \o/

( :

win ukscene

Original.

I love it. GFX and Music are so cool.

great direction!

my favourite part is the "greetings" part :)

excellent .nfo file, with a even more excellent demo included in the archive

Exceptionally well designed and executed demo, easily one of the most sophisticated demos ever made. Music is also fantastic, as expected from Keito.

stylish demo with great music!

Good demo.

Good indeed!

Very nice

Some strive for excellence others settle for mediocrity and death.

this is so pro i can't describe

i miss uk scene all *

wtf where was my thumb

nice

Awesome, especially the music really gets me

very nice :)
