I had grown tired of tweaking store bought shelves to fit my games, to only have them break over time or after a move. So when I moved to a new house, I decided to build (with the help of a friend) custom shelves behind the TV and game systems for my NES collection. I wanted them to be strong, look half decent, affordable, and easy to transport for the next move.

Here is the rough schematic of the shelves and their dimensions. The final product is not these exact dimensions, but many are accurate or close. The 36 inch wide interior pocket of each row is correct (allows me to fit 50 NES games w/ dust covers in a row). The final height for the interior pocket of a row is 5 1/8 inches, with the left and right shelving unit's bottom row being a height of 6 3/8 inches (done so my hard case NES game protectors fit).

Finally, my NES collection put into place. The CIB games on the bottom row won't be staying there. I am working on a shelf that will go to the left of these shelves. Each of the rows can fit 50 NES games snugly, but not overly tight. You can easily take a game out when a row has 50 games. The 3 units have the capacity to fit 800 carts with plastic dust covers on each game, or 700 carts with dust covers and 68 games in plastic cases for a total of 768. (In this picture, each row has 49 games in it, which will make it easier for me to add games later)
