Brand new router, just unboxed.
I upgraded from Archer_C7_V2_131217 as suggested:

Firmware Version: 3.14.3 Build 151014 Rel.49676n
Hardware Version: Archer C7 v2 00000000

Using the web interface I'm trying to flash r28072, downloaded from here:
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2015/11-02-2015-r28072/tplink_archer-c7-v2/

The process fails with:
Error Code: 18005
Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check file name.

I also tried to flash the OpenWrt firmware
https://downloads.openwrt.org/chaos_calmer/15.05/ar71xx/generic/openwrt-15.05-ar71xx-generic-archer-c7-v2-squashfs-factory.bin
from here:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wdr7500

But the same error code.

Also tried using tftp under win7, but it cannot flash the firmware too.

Any suggestions?

I see you used the v2 firmware 151014 for US version: http://www.tp-link.us/download/Archer-C7_V2.html#Firmware

Is your router US version ? Can you provide a picture of the back of the router ?

I think you should have flashed the international (not US) v2/v3 firmware 141110 from here http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/Archer-C7_V2.html#Firmware

Please give more details...

OK. Still can't find out if it's a US or non-US version. Where was the router bought ? Is the power adapter connector US or EU version ?

Bought it in Europe, from Germany, so it is EU then.

Then flash DD-WRT as you intended to do in the first place: use factory-to-ddwrt.bin from ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2015/11-02-2015-r28072/tplink_archer-c7-v2/

OK, did you manage to flash the first build or does it only get stuck when you try dd-wrt. Please give more detailed information, now I'm not sure what firmware you have on it.

I'll modify a build so you can flash dd-wrt on it, but first please confirm that you have this firmware now on it:
Firmware Version: 3.14.3 Build 151014 Rel.49676n
Hardware Version: Archer C7 v2 00000000

Is it this one ?

Can you flash this EU firmware 141110 www.tp-link.com/resources/software/Archer_C7_V2_V3_141110.zip ?
Of course, unpack the contents of the zip file first...

if doesn't work, try this:

I know how to mod the build so it flashes on your current US firmware, but I have to recompile the tool that I use first and can only do it tomorrow morning.

Edit: There's another solution. Do you know how to TFTP a build ?

I could not flash either firmware. I have tried the TFTP method using the Windows GUI TFTP Utility (tftp2.exe) I ran it, set the server to 192.168.0.1, no password, chose the firmware (ddwrt) and after 99 retries I had no luck.

The cause is this stupid Wiki entry that someone created http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/TP_Link_Archer_C7 which links to the firmware of the US version of Archer C7 v2 (Edit: the link has been fixed since I wrote this). If you flash that over the Worldwide/EU version, it will transform the header into the US version, which won't allow flashing of any 3rd party firmware.

That link should have pointed to the Worldwide/EU firmware for Archer C7_V2_V3_141110 found here: http://www.tp-link.com/resources/software/Archer_C7_V2_V3_141110.zip

The official DD-WRT builds for C7 v2 will only flash over the Worldwide/EU firmware and will NOT on the US firmware (error 18005).

Hey i am having exact same issue here. Archer C7 v2 00000000, 3.14.3 Build 151014 Rel.49676n Will not flash to any version of dd-wrt ive tried.
